Winter drinks menu – mulled drinks take centre stage

When it's freezing outside and a cold wind is blowing – Wyraj will warm you up with more than just its cosy atmosphere. At Wyraj restaurant in Warsaw, winter is the season for special warming drinks. On the main menu you'll find many kinds of teas, herbs and infusions that warm the body from within. The winter drinks menu offers signature cocktails and spritzers as well as vodkas, okowitas and liqueurs.

At this time of year, however, the drinks that we warm up specially to warm our guests even more deserve a section of their own. We are of course talking about mulled drinks that make the warmth linger longer and gently go to your head…

What mulled wine is and where it comes from

Mulled wine is a traditional alcoholic drink made mainly by heating wine and adding fragrant spices. Its history goes back to the Middle Ages, when it was a popular drink across Europe. Back then, mulled wine was made with spices such as cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. In those days it not only warmed people up on winter evenings but was also believed to have healing properties. Today mulled wine is an essential part of Christmas markets, ski trips and gatherings by the fireplace, and its aromatic scent is associated with Christmas.

Red mulled wine – a classic at its best

Our Slavic red mulled wine deserves special attention. Carefully chosen warming spices are the key element that gives the drink its aroma and creates a wintry mood. The combination of excellent red wine with honey, cloves, cinnamon and fresh orange becomes a unique bouquet of aromas – the quintessence of winter. Every sip is a true feast for the senses.

How Wyraj prepares mulled wine

Wyraj prepares mulled wine according to a traditional recipe, taking care of every detail to give guests an unforgettable taste experience. Red wine is heated with warming spices such as cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg, which give the drink a deep, aromatic bouquet that goes perfectly with the rich flavour of the wine. The wine must never boil, so we prepare every serving fresh over a low heat, and as soon as it starts to steam gently we add the spices and wait a moment until their flavour and aroma come through.

Our mulled wine is served in special mugs that not only keep the drink hot but also add a rustic charm. Every sip of this homemade mulled wine is a true feast for the senses that warms you up and puts you in a wintry mood on winter and autumn evenings.

Other warming options – mulled drinks not only made with wine!

Besides red mulled wine, Wyraj also offers other hot drinks that are popular with our guests

:

  • Mulled beer – a unique blend of pilsner with apple and cinnamon that surprises with its originality and depth of flavour.
  • Mulled mead – a drink based on trójniak mead, enriched with elderberry, apple and warming spices, perfect for those who want sweet notes as well as warmth.
  • Fruit mulled wine – for lovers of fruity experiments. A blend of apple wine, almonds, raisins and cinnamon offers a wealth of flavour and aroma.

Hot wormwood and grog – other winter pleasures

The menu at Wyraj, our Slavic restaurant, also has room for less traditional drinks that are known only in some regions, such as:

  • Hot wormwood – an unusual combination of wormwood vodka, Siberian herbs, apple and sea buckthorn that delivers strong herbal notes; thanks to the sea buckthorn it contains vitamin C and a touch of tartness.
  • Grog – for sailors and seafarers who prefer classic combinations, the grog at Wyraj is made with black tea, flame-ripened zapalanka (vodka), raisins, sugar and lemon juice – a classic drink that warms you up perfectly.

Summary

The winter drinks menu at Wyraj is perfect for anyone looking for a way to warm up. Whether you choose classic mulled wine, original mulled beer or experimental combinations with wormwood or mead, everyone will find something for themselves and enjoy unique flavours created especially for the winter months.
